"My girlfriend wants a breakup because I've been too good to her," please advise me

My babe is tired of our relationship and is seriously thinking about breaking up with me because I’ve been too good to her.

Relationship Talk

Hello Bukky,

I have been worried about this matter for the past month, thinking about the best way to go about it. So I really would love some external intervention in any way possible.

The thing is, I have this girlfriend. Light-skinned, beautiful and I have to admit, she’s really a catch. We have been together for eight months now without much issue.

We have our occasional lovers’ fights but we always communicate and get through them.

The problem now is that last month, my bae’s friend confided in me that she [my bae] is tired of our relationship and is seriously thinking about breaking up with me.

Her reason? According to her friend, I’ve been too good to her. I do not even know how to explain this without sounding stupid because it sounds just so ridiculous to me.

My girlfriend wants to end things between us because I give her all she wants, I do not chase other girls, I apologise when I’m wrong and when I’m not… and I just do everything a sane guy would do to make his girl happy.

Apparently, that’s not good enough. She wants to break up with me because I do all these things that I always thought women want from guys.

Although she’s yet to tell me anything directly, her behaviour has surely changed and I suspect her friend might be right.

What do you advise me to do? Stop being a good boyfriend and keep my girl, or continue being nice and lose her?

Please advise me.__________________________

Hi,

The answer to this is very simple in my opinion.

The standard of relationships remain the same. There might be little variations in each relationship but the essence is  basically the same everywhere - and you are doing exactly what a sane boyfriend should be doing, and what every normal girlfriend will be very grateful for.

I advise you not to compromise your ways. You are doing the right thing and that your girlfriend does not like it does not mean you should change.

It might hurt when the time comes for you to actually break up, but I really suspect she has another reason for wanting to break up with you. This reason sounds too ridiculous to be the real reason.

If anyone breaks up with you for doing the right thing, maybe they  shouldn’t be with you anymore.

I think this breakup will do you more good than harm. Let her go if she wants to.

It’ll hurt, but it’s only temporary. You’ll be fine in the end.
