10 Reasons why I read everyday

This post is my very poor attempt to be funny and sensible at the same time, Enjoy!

Books made me a creative photographer

Here is why i read:

1. Lingo Aggrandizement

Do you know the above headline means Vocabulary Expansion? Yes, this is why i read books. It allows me to have more varied range of words to express how i feel and to get my point across.

2.  Mental Stimulation

Reading keeps your brain active and engaged which in turn prevents it from losing its power. Studies have shown that staying mentally stimulated can slow the progress of (or possibly even prevent) Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

3. Books develop language and the brain

I did not learn "Hola, Como es usted” from Dora the Explorer, I learnt my first word in Spanish from a book. And my first word in French, in Bahasa, in Malay, in Hausa, in Arabic, in Italian etc (I learnt them all from books)

4. Stress Reduction

Do you know how i unwind after a really shitty day at work? Of course, i relax with a Sophie Kinsella, a Lola Shoneyin, a John Green, and recently 'Let's Pretend this Never Happened' by Jenny Lawson. (Heartfelt apologies to all my friends who had to endure my nonstop guffawing at 8 PM while reading this book)

No matter how much stress you have at work, in your personal relationships, or countless other issues faced in daily life, it all just slips away when you lose yourself in a great story. A well-written novel can transport you to other realms, letting tensions drain away and allowing you to relax.

5. Games of Thrones is Better in Book/Writing

Reading is active, watching is passive. The written word is immersive, the screen affectless. The level of character and world-building detail in The Games of Thrones/Harry Potter/Maze Runner/Half of a Yellow Sun book surpasses anything ever captured on film or television. Argue with my poop please.

6. Exposure to the World

Do you know "Three is seen as a creepy number in some cultures. In Vietnam, it’s apparently bad luck to have three people in a photo as the one in the middle might die". And did you know "The founders of Hewlett-Packard flipped a coin to determine whose name would come first in the company?"

I learnt these awesome facts from a book.

7. Improving Imagination

After i read Harry Potter, i dreamt and imagine of living in a world where the Magic Wand could get you free Pizza and free pounded yam.

Reading helps us imagine. TV, movies and computers offer ready-made imagery (from someone else’s imagination) and are less likely to engage deeper thinking. Good books offers a gateway to perfect unique experiences where ants can talk and monkeys can cook themselves!

8. Makes you Interesting and Attractive

Trust me reading makes you smarter. Having a library of information that you have picked up from reading will come in handy in any academic or scholarly conversation. Also, the more books you read, the better-equipped you are to tackle any challenge you’ll ever face.

Additionally, here’s a bit of food for thought: should you ever find yourself in dire circumstances, remember that although you might lose everything else—your job, your possessions, your money, even your health—knowledge can never be taken from you.

9. Stronger Analytical Thinking Skills

Have you ever read an amazing mystery novel, and solved the mystery yourself before finishing the book? If so, you were able to put critical and analytical thinking to work by taking note of all the details provided and sorting them out to determine “whodunnit”.

That same ability to analyze details also comes in handy when it comes to critiquing the plot; determining whether it was a well-written piece, if the characters were properly developed, if the storyline ran smoothly, etc. Should you ever have an opportunity to discuss the book with others, you’ll be able to state your opinions clearly, as you’ve taken the time to really consider all the aspects involved.

10. Creative Photographer

When i finish a book i take a picture immediately to reflect the theme and subject matter and this has helped me to take beautiful and creative pictures.
