Governor says he’s ready to accept Supreme Court verdict on elections

Wike also urged politicians to stop condemning the judiciary over court judgments that don’t favour them.

Governor Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said that he is ready to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court concerning the cancellation of his victory in the April 11, 2015 elections by the state election petitions tribunal.

The governor is said to have made the comments at the State’s 2016 New Year banquet, according to PM News.

Wike also advised candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to be confident as they would still emerge victorious on all fronts due to the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) betrayal of the people.

The tribunal had nullified Wike’s election victory on October 24 and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to conduct fresh elections in the statewithin 90 days.

The Appeal Court supported this decision citing violations of the Electoral Act during the Rivers polls.

Wike’s victory was challenged by opponent and APC candidate, Dakuku Peterside.

The governor had approached the Appeal Court in a bid to set aside the tribunal’s judgment and also lost at the Supreme Court where he went to challenge the tribunal’s jurisdiction.
