Election shows democracy is maturing in Nigeria, says Analyst

The Abuja-based public affairs analyst made the remark in an interview on Monday.

Rotimi Akeredolu

Nyam made the remark on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja while reacting to the just concluded governorship in that state.

He added that the successful and peaceful conclusion of the election was indicative of improved performance of INEC in organising elections in the country.

“Mr Rotimi Akeredolu’s victory is a clear sign that democracy is maturing and that INEC has improved with each election‎.

“This is because some of the lapses we saw during the Edo gubernatorial election have been taken care of,” he said.

Nyam added that the victory of Akeredolu was a clear sign that Nigerians still had faith in the ability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party that delivered on its promises to the people.

“The victory is also a sign that Nigerians still have faith in the ability of the APC to deliver on its promises.

‎”It shows that people are beginning to appreciate that the current recession is not caused by the present administration.

“It is also clear that Akeredolu is more popular than the rest of the gubernatorial candidates and has played his cards well,” he said.

Also in his reaction, Mr Emmanuel Iriogbe, a Media Consultant, congratulated the Governor-elect and urged him to build the programmes of his administration on the social and economic development of the people.

The media practitioner also called on the Akeredolu to work on the mistakes of his predecessors to make life more meaningful for Ondo people.

“He should be magnanimous in victory by eschewing politics of bitterness and carry all, irrespective of leaning for the overall development of the state.

‘’Government is all embracing, therefore, the governor-elect will do well by bringing in members of other parties for dialogue, to heal the wounds of electoral campaigns.

“I wish the governor-elect well," he said.
