Ex-President ‘disturbed’ by Buhari probe plans – Report

Jonathan is said to be especially disturbed by Buhari’s determination to probe the alleged illegal withdrawal of $2.1 billion from the Excess Crude Account (ECA).

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly unhappy with President Muhammadu Buhari’s plans to probe some of his administration’s activities and is set to protest the moves.

Jonathan is said to be especially disturbed by Buhari’s determination to probe the alleged illegal withdrawal of $2.1 billion from the Excess Crude Account (ECA), according to The Nation.

The former President is reportedly planning to take his grievances to the National Peace Committee instituted by General Abubakar Abdulsalami for the 2015 Elections.

According to unnamed sources cited by The Nation, Jonathan is accusing the Buhari administration of trying to blackmail him and his former cabinet members.

The former President is also said to be unhappy with the corruption tag being placed on his administration.

“The former President returned into the country at the weekend but he is unhappy with the bashing of his administration. Jonathan believes that Buhari is blackmailing him and his ministers, contrary to the terms of the 2015 poll peace agreement which led to a smooth transition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC),” a source told The Nation.

“I think Jonathan approached the Abdulsalami Committee so that he will be left alone by Buhari who openly said he inherited an empty treasury from his predecessor,” the source added.

One of Jonathan’s former cabinet members, who chose to remain anonymous said:

“The ex-President is unhappy that the administration of Buhari has been stigmatising his administration instead of putting him into confidence on issues. For God’s sake, let them allow this man to earn his well-deserved retirement. If there is any observation by the new government, there are standard official procedures of addressing such.”

The withdrawal of the controversial $2.1billion from the ECA has led to a war of words between Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole and former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Okonjo-Iweala however stated that Jonathan approved the withdrawal of the said funds from the account.
