Senate postpones Amaechi’s screening to Thursday, October 15

Amaechi was earlier scheduled to be screened today, October 14, along with nine other nominees.

Senate screens ministerial nominees on October 13, 2015

The Senate has postponed the ministerial screening of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi to Thursday, October 15, 2015.

The former governor will however not appear before the upper legislative chamber today due to the inability of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to submit its report on the petition against him.

Chairman, Senator Sam Anyanwu explained that the committee could not meet on Tuesday following the late adjournment of plenary.

He however said that the committee would meet on Wednesday to finalize the report on Amaechi and submit it on Thursday.

The former governor’s nomination was challenged by three Senators from his state who cited the allegations of corruption levelled against him.

The committee however decided that the charges couldn’t serve as grounds to prevent Amaechi’s confirmation as minister as the case was still pending in court.
