Supreme Court upholds governorship election of Emmanuel, Ikpeazu

The court also upheld the Akwa Ibom Governor's Appeal which challenged the cancellation of the results of the elections held in 13 local governments.

The Supreme Court has validated the elections of Udom Emmanuel and Okezie Ikpeazu, as Governors of Akwa Ibom and Abia State respectively.

The Court gave the verdict today, February 3.

It said Emmanuel won the last governorship election in the state, discarding earlier ruling of the two lower courts.

The court also upheld the Akwa Ibom Governor's appeal which challenged the cancellation of the results of the elections held in 13 local governments.

Similarly, Ikpeazu of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), whose election was nullified by the an Appeal court sitting in Abia State was also vindicated. The court had ordered him to vacate his seat as the state governor and declared Alex otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the election.

The Supreme Court said it would give reasons for the verdict on February 15.
