A Texas health care worker has reportedly tested positive for the deadly Ebola disease virus, health officials have revealed
A statement posted, Sunday, October 12, 2014 on the Texas Department of State Health Service’s website reveals that the health care worker provided hospital care for an Ebola patient who later died.
Health officials further state that ‘confirmatory testing will be conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta’. If the preliminary diagnosis is confirmed (that being the health worker is found positive), this will be the first case where the disease was contracted or transmitted in the US.
‘We knew a second case could be a reality, and we’ve been preparing for this possibility,' said Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, New York Post reports.
‘We are broadening our team in Dallas and working with extreme diligence to prevent further spread’, Lakey added.
