Patoranking has earned his Headies reward

Patoranking’s success isn’t borne on the wings of calculated branding and a well-oiled PR machine. He has attained his present height by sticking to the basics and making good music. That's the argument from Joey Akan, Pulse.ng's music editor.

With The Headies triple awards spelling out the obvious fact about a talented young man, and rewarding him with 3 awards, many are left with a sense of justice and a warm afterglow.

Truth is, we didn’t need the Headies to tell us that Patoranking is a class act. Not since the emergence of Burna Boy have Nigeria found another artiste whose stars are in alignment with a destiny cut out from success itself. K-Solo discovered the act, Timaya nurtured him into a gem, and Foston Music polished him around the edges.

Patoranking’s success isn’t borne on the wings of calculated branding and a well-oiled PR machine. No. He has attained his present height by sticking to the basics and making good music. ‘Alubarika’ is still a very ‘in demand’ song. ‘Girlie Oh’ was an amazing followup, and the remix with Tiwa Savage was a melodic slice of pure music heaven. His features and cameo displays on other songs was also instrumental to his present fame.

When producer WizzyPro found it in his head to make the smash hit single ‘Emergency’, he sure wasn’t expecting the award-winning lovable monster that came out from his studio onto the street. He picked the young guns in the industry to lend their voices and verses to him, and he made magic out them all. Runtown, Skales, andPatoranking. They all did good, and in little time, the song grew wings and sailed all over the country.

Patoranking was instrumental in that. His verse was one of legend, crafted by a man whose vocal performance makes the ladies drool and swoon with overwhelming love, lust, passion and fascination.

On the flip side, his looks also has added to his soaring popularity. Patoranking isn’t what society would tag as ‘poster boy handsome’. Far from that. He possesses a tall lean frame, which is backed by a regular face and weird hair. His motions are regular, his carriage ordinary. But somehow, all of these regular features combines with his voice to ooze an undertone of sexuality that women find irresistible. Simply put, his charm is inexplicable. Many ladies have been known to walk up to him and demand to smash their genitals against his. Fact!

All of these coming from a man who once made his bread by retailing rat poison and breaking his back at laying bricks. A man who at one point didn’t have two dimes to rub together, and who was dependent on favors and isolated acts of charity to get by.

Now he is a star, and an award-winning one. His fame can only grow with each new release, and Nigeria has found an outlet to show love.

Patoranking’s story isn’t one of influence and subsidized prosperity. His was a classic grass to grace, and one worthy of a movie by Walt Disney and his fairytale creators.
