Documentary on life and times of late rapper is in the works

Steve McQueen, who directed "12 Years A Slave" will direct the authorized Tupac Shakur documentary.

The documentary will be helmed by Oscar-winning filmmaker, Steve McQueen, who will work closely with the rapper's family on the project.

The project will be produced by Jayson Jackson and Nigel Sinclair,  with Tupac’s aunt, Gloria Cox, serving as an executive producer.

“I am extremely moved and excited to be exploring the life and times of this legendary artist,” McQueen said in a statement.

"I look forward to working closely with his family to tell the unvarnished story of this talented man," McQueen adds.

June 16, 2017, will see the release of a Tupac biopic titled "All Eyez on Me," which follows the career of the late rapper all the way to the fatal drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996.

Shakur was shot multiple times on September 7, 1996 in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, and died six days later.

The biopic also stars Danai Gurira as Afeni,  Kat Graham, Lauren Cohan, Jamie Hector, and Annie Ilonzeh.

No title has been chosen for the upcoming documentary.
