Ijaw leaders promise to end militancy if FG withdraws army attacks

The National President of the congress, Chief Charles Harry, made this known in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Friday, August 12, 2016.

Speaking on the assurance of ending militancy in Niger Delta, the leaders under the body, the Ijaw National Congress, INC, declared that says cases of militancy in the region can be resolved within 30 days if the Federal Government ceases hostilities in the area.

Harry further said though area had lost enough youths owing to the use of military force in the Niger Delta, the leaders are willing to find a lasting solution within 30 days.

“We ask for peace to return to the region; shooting and bombings can be resolved in 30 days.

“If the Federal Government is willing and sincere, we ask for 30 days. Peace can return to the Niger Delta in 24 hours if the right thing is done; if there is truth, faithfulness. Negotiations take time but armistice can be done in 24 hours,” Harry said.

A large number of youths in Niger Delta have taken to militancy with various militant groups rearing their heads and wrecking havoc on oil facilities in the region.
