The judges were arrested between Friday, October 7, and Saturday, October 8, in various states of the country.

“SP, @bukolasaraki also acknowledged that the judiciary needs to be sanitized but condemns the unlawful mode of arrest,” a post from the Senate’s Twitter handle read.

“Any anti-corruption action that goes against the rule of law does not help the fight against corruption,” it added.

The DSS earlier announced that it had recovered about $800,000 from three judges during the raid.

The judges involved are: Sylvester Ngwuta and Inyang Okoro of the Supreme Court; Mohammed Tsamiya of the Appeal Court; Adeniyi Ademola and Muazu Pindiga of the Federal High Court; Innocent Umezulike who is the Chief Judge of Enugu State and Kabir Auta of the Kano State High Court.

The accused persons have been released by the DSS on bail.
