Police arrest truck driver with hemp

Ibrahim said that other suspects arrested by the command included, two vandals of government property.

NDLEA said it has collected 3,400 kilograms of hard drugs in 2016.

The police in Kebbi State, said on Tuesday that it had arrested a truck driver, Aliyu Sani, with 176 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kabiru Ibrahim, made this disclosure while addressing newsmen.

Ibrahim added that two suspected rapists and 13 armed robbers had also been arrested.

He said that the driver, who loaded the weeds from Ogere in Ogun State was transporting it to Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The commissioner said that investigation into the case was ongoing, adding that he would soon be handed over to the NDLEA for further actions.

“We also arrested one Bashiru Haruna and Aliyu Bangu, all in Jankasa Area of Zuru LGA, with 26 solar panels, four chargers and one inverter, property of the council area,’’ he said.

He said that the suspects had confessed to have received the stolen solar panel from one Lukumanu Sale of Zuru, now at large.

Ibrahim said that the suspects were under investigation by the command after which they would be charged to court.

He appealed to the public to continue to provide the police with useful information on suspected criminals and their activities.

“We shall continue to do what we are expected to do in order to maintain the prevailing peace in the state,’’ he said.
