Nigerian Army confirms that recent attack casualties still counting

Military authorities in North Eastern Nigeria has acknowledged that scores were killed in the attack on Dalori and other villages of Borno State on Saturday.

Sources said the total number of the casualties is still yet to be ascertain as more copses are been discover by villagers and emergency workers.

Residents said the attack was carried out serially on Dalori, Yale and other villages. They disclosed that after the gun attack by the fighters of the Boko Haram, people running into other communities were killed by female suicide Bombers.

Meanwhile, Col. Mustapha Anka, the Media Coordinator of Operation Lafiya Dole Theater Command, has also confirmed the attack in a statement. According to The JTF spokesman, the attack targeted local vigilantes also know as Civilian JTF. "In their desperate efforts for reprisal attacks on strong, determined and committed members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and innocent citizen, on 30 January 2016 Boko Haram insurgent launched attack on Dalori through Yale from rear of Dalori village," the military statement stated.

"An eye witnessed said that the insurgent came in two Golf cars, motorcycles, started opening fire and burning houses. their motive was to cause rancour and penetrate crowd with suicide bombers. Similarly, while people were running for their dear lives to Gomari Kerkeri village three female suicide bombers attempted to make their way into the crowd but were intercepted and subsequently got blown up," the military said.

"During the incident lives were lost while some people sustained injuries. The insurgents also attempted to penetrate Dalori IDP camp, but the attempt was resisted by the troop which resulted into detonation of IED by the suicide bombers," the statement added. Meanwhile, the Theater commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Hassan Umaru has condoled the District Head Of Dalori, Alh Lawal Bashir and the entire dwellers for the unfortunate incident.

Umaru assured the people of Theatre's commitment in bringing insurgency to an end soon. General Umaru commended the villagers for their resilience and urged them to be strong and committed in the fight against insurgency. He also commended NEMA, SEMA, Red Cross and other Stakeholders for their tireless humanitarian efforts. Ibrahim Yerebe contributed from Maiduguri.
