Police discover large storage of live ammunition in primary school

It has been discovered that a primary school in Umuahia, Abia State is being used as a storage for live ammunition by unknown persons.

The Abia State Police Command recovered a large storage of live ammunition from Nkata Primary School in the state capital.

According to the police, the discovery followed a tip-off by a teacher.

The Police Public Relations Officer,  Ezekiel Onyeke, said pupils discovered the ammunition on the school’s playground.

“The EOD team exhumed 1,233 of 7.62mm. (Long) live ammunition from the dump. The police are still combing the environment to ensure that the area is cleared of arms and ammunition or other explosives,” Onyeke said.

He assured that investigation on the incident is ongoing.
