Katsina State's ex-Gov wanted by EFCC for embezzlement

Ibrahim Shema has been declared wanted by the EFCC over alleged embezzlement amongst other alleged crimes.

According to a report by Leadership Newspaper, Shema was declared wanted on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 by the anti-graft body over diversion of the state's fund and embezzlement.

Wilson Uwujaren, Head of Media and Publicity, EFCC made this known in a recent statement saying: “The former governor is wanted in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy, inflation of contract, abuse of office, diversion of funds, and embezzlement running into billions of naira.”

The statement further read, “The former governor ignored several invitations by the commission since December 1, 2015 when he was first summoned by the agency.”

Uwajaren also explained that Shema was declared wanted after the commission's efforts to locate the ex-governor proved abortive.

In June 2016, the Katsina State Judicial Commission of Enquiry had summoned Shema over N10bn SURE-P funds but the matter was adjourned.

Shema is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who was elected Governor of Katsina State during the 2007 general elections. He was re-elected for another four-year term on April 28, 2011, running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. His second four-year term ended on May 29, 2015 after Aminu Bello Masari, was elected new elected governor of the state.
