DSS refuses to allow ex-NSA travel abroad despite court order

Officials of the DSS are said to still be on the premises of Dasuki’s Abuja home and are holding him ‘hostage'.

Former NSA, Sambo Dasuki

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly refused to allow former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki to travel abroad despite two court orders permitting him to do so.

Officials of the DSS are said to still be on the premises of Dasuki’s Abuja home and are holding him ‘hostage’, according to ThisDay.

“They are still holding the former NSA hostage despite the court order. Can you imagine how they are gradually leading the nation into a totalitarian regime?” a source said.

“When an agency of government can openly disregard a court order not once but on several occasions, deciding what and when to obey it is pure dictatorship,” the source added.

Justice A‎demola Adeniyi of the Federal High Court in Abuja gave the first ruling on November 3, 2015, ordering the DSS to release Dasuki’s passport so he could travel to London for three weeks on health grounds.

“Court orders must be obeyed. What is wrong in the defendant travelling and coming back to face trial? Only a fit person can stand for trial and investigation. My own orders will not be flouted,” Adeniyi had said on November 13 while giving a second ruling in Dasuki’s favour.

Dasuki is facing charges of illegal arms possession and money laundering.

The former NSA’s troubles began in July after he was removed by President Muhammadu Buhari and saw his homes in Abuja and Sokoto raided by officials of the DSS.
