President to help states offset owed salaries

Apart from Benue, about, five other states in the country are owing workers' salaries from four to six months.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to bail out the states owing salaries to offset the backlog.

He said this on Friday, June 12, in Makurdi, the state capital, during separate meetings with students and other union leaders from the Benue State University (BSU) who had lamented that students of the university have been at home for four months due to ongoing strike stemming from non-payment of salaries.

Other states face salary crisis include, Osun, Enugu, Kaduna, Plateau and Imo.

Ortom further revealed that his predecessor, Gabriel Suswam left behind a debt burden of over N90 billion for his administration, contrary to the N9.2 billion debt as claimed by the former governor.
