Sources at the Presidential Villa and a handful of Governors who attended the meeting with the President, have spoken to Pulse about what was on the agenda during the meeting.

They all craved anonymity for this story.

1. APC’s under-performance

The APC hasn’t lived up to its pre-election billing on several fronts.

Poor performance from the party at the center was on the front-burner during this meeting, one Governor told Pulse moments after.

“We agreed that we have to do better; that we have to fight the economic recession together. The President assured us that his cabinet members, the economic team and himself are doing everything to get Nigeria out of this recession. We resolved that it's time to stop blaming the government of former for our woes as a country; and begin to deliver on most of what we promised voters during the campaigns.”

According to a Presidential aide, the Governors told the President that the recession has worsened their favourability ratings with the people in their respective states.

2. Tinubu and Oyegun have to mend faces

The public feud between APC Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun and APC leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also dominated talks at this meeting.

Tinubu had gone as far as calling for Oyegun's resignation in a letter seething with palpable rage.

An aide of one of the Governors told “It was resolved that the Oyegun-Tiinubu feud wasn’t good for the party and that the APC led by President Buhari, should do more to restore peace between both parties and between all other factions”.

3. Aisha Buhari’s comments

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, had expressed concerns about her husband’s Presidency, stating that a cabal had hijacked what should have been an APC project.

In his riposte, Buhari had said his wife belongs to the Kitchen and the other room. Far from apologising, Buhari had doubled down on his comments some 24 hours later.

Two Governors who attended this Monday meeting told Pulse in separate chats that Aisha’s concerns were tabled at this meeting.

It was resolved that the President had to carry everyone along; especially APC chieftains who staked everything for the fulfillment of a Buhari Presidency.

One of the Governors told Pulse: “Recall that the President recently As Governors, we considered it a slight that some of us weren’t consulted before Ambassadors were named from our States”.

Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong had lamented that  a former Deputy Governor of his State, Pauline Tallen, was named an Ambassador without his knowledge.

Tallen would go on to turn down the appointment, citing poor consultation from the Presidency.

In hailing Tallen’s decision, Governor Lalong had said: “Once things are not done properly, it is better for a leader and a mother to come out and say that things are not done properly in the interest of the state.

“When I heard the announcement I was very shocked because what happened was without proper consultation”.

put calls through to Laolu Akande, a Spokesperson of Vice President Osinbajo, but there were still unanswered at the time of filing this.
