Australia supports fight against insurgency with $3m

The North-eastern region has been devastated due to Boko-Haram’s constant attacks.

The humanitarian crisis and destruction in the North-Eastern region of Nigeria, as a result of the violent activities of Boko Haram, has caught the world’s attention.

The Australian Government, through its High Commission in Nigeria has donated the sum of $3m to cushion the effect of the disaster caused by insurgency in Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Chad.

The High Commission in a statement said “The contribution is being used in all four countries to assist up to 400,000 of the region’s refugees, Internally Displaced Persons and the communities hosting them to gain access to life-saving food assistance.”

Adding that “Special attention is being paid to children under five, pregnant women and nursing mothers faced with malnutrition.”

Despite the Federal Government’s claim that it has technically defeated the sect, a Borno State Senator, Baba Kaka Garbai revealed that Boko Haram still controls 50 precent of the state.

Also, the Nigerian Army has launched a probe into the recent Boko Haram attacks which claimed 85 lives in Borno State.
