Police officers also reportedly arrested many members of the group, according to an official.

The IPOB protest was organized to condemn the continued imprisonment of the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu was arrested in Lagos in October 2015 and is currently being held at the Kuje Prison in Abuja.

He is facing charges of treason and has been denied bail.
