NIS job scam: EFCC grills ex-minister for 6 hours

The candidate had paid N1000 each through a company said to have been engaged by a top politician and officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).

Former Interior Minister, Abba Moro

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, October 22, continued the grilling of former Minister of interior, Abba Moro, over the ‘disappearance’ of N600 million realised from the online registration by Nigerian job seekers, who enrolled for the failed immigration recruitment in 2014.

Moro, who was interrogated for 10 hours on Tuesday, was said to have been granted administrative bail after a 6-hour long questioning on Thursday.

According to an official of the anti-graft agency, who spoke to Vanguard, the investigators wanted to know how the money 'got lost' between the NIS Director, David Paraddang , as at then, and Moro, who  headed the Interior Ministry.

“At the end of the day, our agents will be able to know who is culpable so that we can press appropriate charges accordingly in line with our zero tolerance for corruption.

“We are going to get to the roots of the job scam and bring to book anyone found to have abused public trust in the process,” an official of EFCC was quoted as saying last night.

Marred by stampede, the 2014 recruitment tragedy claimed the lives of 15 Nigerians, who were crushed to death at the venue of the job test.
