The incident has drawn widespread backlash, with critics accusing the officers of undermining the integrity and professionalism expected of the Nigerian Police Force.

Describing the act as “professional misconduct” and “discreditable conduct,” the Inspector-General’s directive stated: “Respectfully convey INGENPOL directive… release Provost 1 PMF Kaduna to come along with DSP Aliyu Adejembi and team to interview INGENPOL… unfailingly on Wednesday 16/04/2025 at 0900HRS. Treat as very important.”

The officers were reportedly on special duty with the Chinese nationals in Lagos when the incident occurred. While the motives behind the handout remain unclear, the visual of officers accepting cash while in uniform has triggered concerns about the perception of corruption and the ethical standards of law enforcement personnel.

Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding possible disciplinary actions. However, the swift summons indicates that the top brass is eager to address public outrage and reaffirm standards of conduct within the force.

The outcome of the internal investigation could set a precedent as the force grapples with restoring public trust amid growing scrutiny.
