Al-Makura gave the warning in Lafia while reacting to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse by residents at the state’s Popular “On the Move Garage” and other undesignated sites in the state capital.

He said that the warning became imperative considering the harmful effect of refuse on human health and to ensure environmental cleanliness and the general wellbeing of the people of the state.

“My administration is doing its best in keeping the environment clean; it is also the responsibility of everybody to complement government efforts by keeping his or her environment clean.

“It is often said that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation; it is on this note that the government is always advising the people on the need to maintain personal and environmental hygiene in the country.

“I want to use this medium to appeal to the people of the state to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse on drainages, undesignated sites and along the roads and high ways considering its health implication on human lives.

“Dumping of refuse in to gutters, markets and other places could also be a breeding ground for mosquitoes which is dangerous to human health and can lead to the spread of communicable disease,” he said.

Al-Madura warned that the state government would take proactive steps to curtail such acts that pose danger to human health and environment.

“This is to enhance environmental cleanliness and for the general wellbeing of the people,” the governor said.

Al-Makura urged the residents to keep their dustbins tightly covered at all times as debris from uncovered dustbins goes straight into gutters.

He said that Nigerians should be encouraged to concentrate efforts on the cleaning of drains and canals in their immediate environment to avoid health challenges.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment in ensuring a clean, hygienic environment and the maintenance of drainage channels as part of strategies to improve the standard of living of the people.
