The Ebonyi state commissioner for health,
Umezuruike said the boy was recently discharged from Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, because he responded to treatment.
He said this is the second recorded case of Lassa Fever in the state, adding that it was very unfortunate.
Reports say the dead boy, a primary school pupil, was from Igbeagu, in Izzi Local Government Area.
The commissioner said ”But unfortunately, he died the same day he was discharged. His case was surprising because the hospital thought he was all right after being treated, but before he was discharged we had already taken his sample which came out positive.”
Adding that ”The first person was a student of Ebonyi State University and now the 10 year-old.”
Premium Times also reports that the boy’s parents are based in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Umezuruike also said the authorities are trying to locate first contacts of the dead victim, to check for possible symptoms and curb the spread of the disease.
The Plateau state government has embarked on a sensitisation program to teach people how to prevent the spread of the Lassa Fever disease.
