AfDB donates 2 ambulances, 30 Bajaj motorcycles, 34 safety boxes to FG

In bid to minimize health risks and support the Federal Government on its continuous fight against health hazards in Nigeria, the African Development Bank (AfDB) has donated health equipment worth of US$290,000 to FG.

The equipment which was received in Abuja by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, includes 2 ambulances, 30 Bajaj motorcycles, and 34 safety boxes.

Speaking with gratitude to WHO’s country director, Dr.Rui Gama Vaz, Adewole said the new health equipment would help the country prepare for eventualities as the world is going from one epidemic to another due to global warming.

"We thank you very sincerely and we need more, this is just the beginning the whole World must be prepared for eventualities as global warming is bringing quite a number of challenges in the health sector , yesterday was Lassa, day before yesterday was Ebola today and tomorrow is Zika and we don't know what would happen tomorrow and thereafter.

"The most important thing is that we must be prepared at all time, and this would help us to stay prepared and we still look forward to support our laboratories facilities and build the human system that would make the country ready for any epidemic."

Gama Vaz commended the FG on how Ebola was arrested and further stated that the equipment were purchased with the Ebola response fund, which was planned for curtailing the virus.

On October 20, 2014, Nigeria was declared Ebola free by WHO.
