Minister orders arrest of assailants

The shocking incident reportedly took place on Monday, November 7 at a mine in Bindim, Maru Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 9, by the Press Secretary to the minister, Osaigbovo Ehisienmen, Dambazau ordered the police and Civil Defence Corps, to arrest those behind the heinous act, Punch reports.

The statement read, “The Minister of Interior has condemned in strong terms, the senseless killing of innocent Nigerians at a mining site in Zamfara State. While condoling with the Government and people of Zamfara over the most reprehensible attack, Dambazau has mandated the Police and NSCDC to apprehend perpetrators of this dastardly act, with a view to bringing them to justice."

The minister stated that the incident has strengthened his resolve to join hands with the Ministry of Mines and Solid Minerals in creating a special squad made up of NSCDC personnel to protect organised mining sites across Nigeria.

Dambazau also urged the police and the NSCDC to improve their synergy in order to curb kidnapping and other criminal vices in the country.
