The middle-aged woman who was rescued by a patrol police along Third Mainland Bridge today just before she could end her life by jumping into the Lagos Lagoon was depressed and with good cause.

Still, Suicide has never been the answer to one's problems.

The 58-year-old woman who is a member of the RCCG church is reported to have taken off her shoes and was preparing to take the leap when men of Rapid Response Squad 226 prevented her from jumping.

Instablog9ja reports that the woman who is a textile dealer and resides in Lekki Lagos disclosed that she chose to commit suicide in order to put an end to her shame and sleeplessness caused by her indebtedness to three Swiss textile dealers.

Mrs Momoh revealed that her problem had begun in 2015 when a Bureau De Change operator made away with her N18.7 million which she was trying to change in order to settle her creditors.

The situation was compounded by a robbery attack on her shop during which most of her textiles were stolen and she was left with next to nothing.

Mrs Momoh noted that she has been suffering from insomnia and has been hallucinating, claiming to be haunted by the ghosts of her creditors whenever she is alone.

She added that she had attempted to see her parish pastor to discuss her problem, in the hopes that the church could help her raise the money she needs.

Unfortunately, she was only allowed to see the assistant parish pastor which did nothing to change her situation.

“Added to all these, my first son, whom I felt would stand by me and console me abandoned me.

"I don’t want to use my debt and death to disturb anybody. The problem is too much for me to bear. I want to go back to God. That is why I have dressed very simply. I am ready to meet HIM. If He cannot address my problem on earth, let me go back to Him," she said.

Speaking with newsmen at the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, headquarters, Lagos Government Secretariat, Alausa, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Friday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said that Momoh was in a taxi heading towards Oworonshoki on Third Mainland Bridge when she told the taxi driver to stop on the bridge.

Owoseni gathered that the woman was suffering from depression as a result of unpaid loans following his interaction with her, concluding that "she is still insisting that she wants to end her life."

He noted that committing suicide is an offence under the law but that the police would try to talk the woman out of committing suicide.

According to him, the woman would be taken through post-trauma programme to ensure that she finds hope and not commit suicide, adding that the police would do a medical evaluation on her to ascertain her condition.
