A middle-aged man, Tope Adegbehingbe, who murdered his 86-year-old neighbour, Janet Oyeniyi, at Ajebambo village near Oniparaga in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has told the police that he decided to do away with the octogenarian because she was a witch and always attacked him in the dreams, trying to kill him.
Adegbehingbe was arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in the state capital on a charge of murder, after he was arrested for attacking and killing the old woman.
Though his plea was not taken as the court said it had no jurisdiction to entertain murder trial, Adegbehingbe, however, said he took the measure to attack the woman and kill her before she killed him.
In his confessional statement in the court, the suspect confessed that he was guilty of the murder charge brought against him.
According to the prosecution counsel, the accused was alleged to have hacked the woman to death on October, 23, with machete until she gave up the ghost, claiming he used to see her in his dreams.
“The woman happened to be my neighbour. I killed her because I saw her in my dream trying to kill me.
So immediately I woke up the following morning, I went straight to her house to kill her because I thought that was the best thing to do before she would kill me.”
