Readers believe a man who loves a woman should accept her love child

75% of Pulse Nigeria Poll voters are of the view that a man who is truly in love with a woman and wants to marry will also accept her love child.

Read her letter here:

"My name is Deborah. I am a 27-year-old woman, living and working in Lagos. If all goes well, my fiancé, Jordan, and I, would be getting married in October this year but the snag is that he does not want to accept my child and has vowed that the boy would never have a place in his home.

I will say I made a mistake when I was 16, fresh from secondary school, when I got pregnant for a youth corps member posted to my secondary school. I was very young and had never fallen in love with any man until I met Mike who took advantage of my naivety and stole my heart.

Mike promised me heaven and earth and I fell head over heels in love with him. I was not ready to listen to any voice of reason as I gave my heart, body and soul to Mike, not knowing I was digging my grave because by the time I realised I was pregnant, Mike was done with his youth service and had left our school, without informing me where he would be.

I bore the shame of not knowing where the father of my baby was and if not for my mother, I could have killed myself due to the taunts and disgrace I was facing. But my parents stood by me till I put to bed and after weaning my son, they made sure I went back to school while they looked after the boy.

I gained admission into the university, graduated with good grades and after my youth service, I got a good job with a telecommunications company. All those years, I stayed away from men and regarded all of them as the same demons but when Jordan came into my life and made very good impressions on me, I decided to give him a chance.

Before we started dating, I told him the story of my life and the baby I had who, apart from God and my parents, is what I live for. Jordan was sort of indifferent when I told him any man who wants to marry me must accept my son as his own. he never said anything till after our introduction when he told me plainly that he will not accept my son into his home after we are married.

He said my son reminds him of Mike who took away my innocence and he gets mad anytime he sets his eyes on the boy.

I love Jordan so much and I know we do have a future together but I also have a duty to my son, my first 'blood.'

What do I do in this situation?

Deborah."
