Parents of Chibok girls shun meeting with Pres. Jonathan

According to presidential spokesperson, Doyin Okupe, the July 15 meeting was frustrated due to the non-attendance of the girls’ parents.

According to the Presidency, a meeting arranged between the parents of the over 200 abducted Chibok schoolgirls and President Goodluck Jonathan could not hold because the parents failed to show.

This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to the president on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe. Okupe said that the president had graciously agreed to the meeting after being prevailed upon by girl rights activist, Malala Yousafzai.

However, the meeting, slated for 4:00pm yesterday could not hold because the parents of the girls refused to attend.

Dr. Okupe blamed their failure to attend on the leadership of the #BringBackOurGirls movement and named former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili as one of the antagonists of the arranged meeting.

President Goodluck Jonathan has also issued a statement in relation to the incident in which he accused the activists of “playing politics”.

The over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped from Borno on April 14 and have now been missing for 93 days.
