A court in South Africa, Scottburgh Regional Court , has handed down a monumental 315-year jail sentence on a serial rapist, Mhlonishwa Mathebula, who went on a raping spree that saw him rape 18 women between the ages of 14 and 40.
Mathebula, 33, who has only one arm after his right arm had been amputated below the elbow when he was a child, the result of being electrocuted, was said to be on rampage raping several women, also received nine life sentences and 90 years after pleading guilty.
Police had nicknamed Mathebula the 'springbok' for his ability, much like the gazelle-like marsupial for which he was named, to elude South African authorities. They say he had 'managed to escape the net' on several occasions.
South Africa Police Service said the one-armed sex fiend was considered one of the most wanted criminals in South Africa.
Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said:
Mathebula, one of the most wanted criminals, managed to escape the net that had been repeatedly cast around him. He was extremely strong, agile and quick on his feet.
Mathebula's reign of terror is finally over and the public can take comfort in the fact that he will not be able to destroy anymore innocent lives.
Mathebula was described by a psychologist as a danger to society.
