Police rescue baby stolen 48 hours after birth

According to the prime suspect in the case, she and her accomplice took the baby because they were being owed.

Two kidnapping suspects have been arrested by the Imo State Police Command, for attempting to steal a baby about three days after its birth.

The theft happened at the Chukwunonso Maternity in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, of the state, Daily Post reports.

Ngozi Anyanwu, the chief suspect in the kidnapping incident said she, alongside her accomplice, took the baby because the owner of the hospital was owing her.

Taiwo Lakanu, the state Commissioner of Police confirmed this to newsmen, stating that the suspects were apprehended following a report at the police station.

Lakanu affirmed the commitment of the police to tackling such events for those who have refused to desist from kidnapping activites.

“Child stealing and trafficking still persist despite numerous warnings to people to desist from the devious act."

“My team, the entire Imo State Police Command, will not rest on its oars to ensure that criminal offenses are brought to its barest minimum in the state."

“It is so unfortunate that such barbaric behaviour still exists among our people”, he said.
