Man hacked to death for stealing ATM card in Delta

A suspected thief who allegedly stole an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) card in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, was given instant

According to witnesses, the man was apprehended at the popular Ogbeogonogo Market as he attempted to escape with a bag he had snatched from a woman containing the card and other items.

The man was subsequently seized by angry traders in a mob action resulting to the man convulsing to death.

It was also gathered that even the presence of police officers who attempted to rescue the man could not deter the crowd as they kept on pummeling the suspect who wanted him dead as against the police taking him away.

A trader who witnessed the scene narrated:

“It was not a good sight to behold. I was one of those who begged that the man should be handed over to the police but they would not listen.

While the victim was struggling with death, onlookers were saying he was only pretending in order to evade justice, while the beating continued until the man gave up the ghost.

The situation lead to pandemonium, but immediately it was believed the man is dead, everyone ran from the scene for safety.”
