Police station invaded by armed men, leave 2 officers dead

The attack had according to reports, been carried out by 12 gunmen who had stormed the Osara police station in Adavi Local government area of Kogi state, yesterday, May 19, 2016, killing two police officers during the attack.

Two officers have reportedly been killed in an attack by gun men on a police station in Adavi Local Government area, Kogi state.

The Nation reports that the unidentified gunmen had attacked at about 2am in the morning, aiming at stealing from the station's armory as well as breaking one of their colleagues out of jail.

The man had made away with arms and ammunition, while releasing other detainees being held at the station.

The reports reveal that two officers had been killed in the line of duty, as they had tried to stop the gunmen during the attack, while another two are reported to be critically injured and are presently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.The assailants had reportedly operated for two hours without being challenged and are alleged to have set a parked vehicle at the station, ablaze.

Willy Aya, the spokesperson for the Kogi Police Command, had confirmed the reports but denied any fatalities arising from the attack.
