NSCDC say they nabbed 185 suspected oil vandals in Akwa Ibom last year

The Akwa Ibom State commandant of the NSCDC revealed that they arrested 185 petroleum vandals in 2014.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in 2014 arrested 185 people suspected of oil theft and vandalisation in Akwa Ibom State.

The Akwa Ibom state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Pedro Ideba, made this known while addressing newsmen in Uyo on Wednesday January 7.

Speaking on the activities of the command, Mr Pedro Ideba, revealed that the command seized 15 tankers used for oil bunkering, eight pumping machines and five buses used by suspects in the course of last year.

“About 185 suspects were arrested last year for alleged involvement in oil bunkering, adulteration of petroleum products and vandalism. We also apprehended suspected criminals, who destroyed government infrastructure,” Mr Pedro Ideba said.

The commandant also revealed that some of the suspects were initially arrested by the Nigeria Navy and other security agencies and  handed over to them.

He also revealed that some illegal private security companies were shut down by the command for operating without license in 2014.
