2 men in prison for gang-raping 12-yr-old girl

Two men named Festus Owie and Blessing Ebiminor, 20 and 21 years old respectively, have been remanded in prison by an Egor Magistrates' Court sitting in Edo State, for allegedly gang-raping a 12-year-old girl.

They were arraigned on a three-count charge of defilement, rape and assault for the offence the reportedly committed on October 26, 2014.

According to the prosecutor, Owie and Ebiminor had conspired between themselves and lured the girl into a room at 46, First Oromina Street, off Siluko Road, Benin, where they not only assaulted the victim but also had sexual intercourse with her against her will.

The prosecutor noted that the offences were in contravention of Sections 218 and 222 of the Criminal Code Cap 48, Vol II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, applicable in the state.

When the charges were read to them, the two accused, they pleaded not guilty and the judge ordered that they should be remanded in prison custody till October 19 when they would be cross-examined.
