We've Converted Abducted Girls To Islam - Boko Haram

Boko Haram has released a new video in which it claimed that the nearly 300 girls they abducted from a school in Chibok, Borno state, have been converted to Islam.

Police sources had put the number of abducted girls at 276.

The leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau, was shown in the video with about 130 of the girls.

He boasted that the girls, majority of whom are Christians, have been converted to Islam.

"These girls, these girls you occupy yourselves with... we have indeed liberated them. These girls have become Muslims," Abubakar Shekau was quoted as saying by the BBC.

In a portion of the video posted on YouTube, the girls, dressed in flowing hijabs, were seen reciting portions of the Koran on an open field that looks like a typical northern Nigerian terrain.

They looked unharmed, calm and resigned.

Shekau warned that the girls would not be released until all arrested Boko Haram members are freed by the Nigerian government.

Since the abduction of the girls on April 14, The international community has rallied together to seek pressure the government and the abductors in the #BringBackOurGirlsCampaign.

There have been rallies all around Nigeria and other parts of the world.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government, with the supports of US, Britain and other countries, has intensified efforts to bring the girls back to safety.

It has now been four weeks since their abduction.
