In a rare show of suicidal bravado, a Nigerian man suspected to be a known drug trafficker in India, Obyeka Anwanbukwa, in a bid to get away from narcotic officials, plunged down a high rise building to his death in the Akash Bhavan in the Bhaunagar area of Pimple Gurav of India.
The 35 year old man, who, according to reports, was being hounded by officials of India Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB, did not want to be taken into custody and decided to make a run for it, by jumping out of the third floor window of the high rise and ended up with multiple injuries which led to his death few hours later.
A statement signed by SPI Saifan Mujavar of the Sangvi Police station stated thus:
He, (Obyeka Anwanbukwa), tried to flee when asked about his involvement in drug peddling and jumped out of the window. He suffered injuries in the legs and other parts of the body and was immediately rushed to the Aundh District Hospital.
After primary treatment, doctors declared him to be normal and the NCB team left for Mumbai with him. However, he complained of feeling unwell, following which he was brought back to the hospital, where he died during treatment around midnight.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian community in India have not bought the accidental death theory, and have demanded for a thorough investigation into the death of the Nigerian and make available an autopsy report to really ascertain the cause of the death.
