Fathers are arguably the more under celebrated group but that should not be the case because, they too are important.
They too should be celebrated. And do understand that though they may not always make a fuss about it, it is thrilling for them to know that they are being celebrated by the people in their lives.
They too have emotions and so, have feelings no matter how hard they might act on the exterior.
Remembering to celebrate fathers is hard but knowing what to give them on special days is even harder. So as Father’s day approaches, we have put together a list that will ease your decision process as we prepare to celebrate the special men in our lives.
Before we go on though, it will help if you pick on their words and thoughts for feelers on what they really want. They might have been complaining about their damaged phones, a new wrist watch or shirt or anything else.
1. Make him a good meal, his favourite (or take him out to dinner):
Our fathers and husbands or brothers-in-law are used to being on the giving end all the time; giving the attention, the gifts etc.
So a well-made meal or dinner paid for by you will be very welcome!
2. Fashion accessories (watch, belt, socks, shoes etc.):
No one ever said ‘no’ to a good wristwatch, socks or a pair shoes on Father’s Day.
These are some of the items he will require on almost a daily basis so having an extra or two (coming from a loved one) will not be a bad idea.
3. Toiletries (Aftershave, bath wash, grooming kits, etc.):
We all love our fathers, uncles and husbands looking dapper all the time. Don’t we? Their favourite grooming kit is one more thing they cannot refuse on Father’s Day
4. Clothing items (African fabric, shirts, trousers, blazers, etc.):
As a person, my favourite image of my father is of him in a traditional outfit made from African print.
I am pretty sure it is the same for most of us especially since the traditional outfits are a big part of our culture here in Nigeria. You can make danshiki, kaftan or agbada even from a nice guinea or ‘atiku’ fabric.
5. Electronic/Gadgets (Phones, e-reader, Smart TV, etc.):
A good number of us grew up with our fathers buying us phones, television sets etc. but there is nothing wrong with replacing that mobile phone or TV they have been complaining about or buying the one they fancy. Just look around you, what electronic item do you think he might need?
Go for it! That’s a chance to say to him just how special they and how much they are appreciated. The gift items will not sum their worth to us but you see, the very thought behind it means more to them.
What else do you think has been left out? Hit us up in the comment section.
Happy Father’s Day to all our fathers!
