Why more Nigerians are turning to Photovoltaic Solar Systems

You can bring the sunlight indoor once you have the photovoltaic system installed and not have to depend solely on PHCN!

One advantage the solar PV system has over everything else including NEPA is the fact it is supplied by nature and so is free and completely abundant.

You will need inverters to convert current from DC to AC, it does more than just tap from existing power source, store and supply power to a user when needed. It generates electricity.

The power situation in the country at this time is not at its best and so it begins to make more sense that more people are pro-actively and increasingly exploring alternative sources of energy.

Personally, I am on the verge of making a buying decision; am I to get a photovoltaic solar system, a good old inverter or you know, maybe a generator?

So these are some of the points I have considered in favour of the solar PV system:

For owning an inverter to be of any significance, I first need to have a primary source that generates power that I can tap from. Seeing that I don’t have that primary source and I cannot trust the power supply from the national grid should I not just turn my house into a mini power station and buy a photovoltaic solar system?

This is beyond the fact that Solar PVs are more expensive than inverters on the average and that I still need an inverter to run my photovoltaic solar systems.

Other advantages of the photovoltaic solar system are:

On the downside and perhaps the most serious inhibition there is to the photovoltaic solar system is that it shines only in daytime. And of what use is it if you don’t have power supply at night? But this is mediated by the use of an inverter which taps and stores the electricity generated during the day.

Also, despite the fact that solar energy is freely bestowed by nature, the technology systems needed to gather it is pretty expensive compared to the cost of getting inverters or generators.

Another inhibition is the fact that the availability of solar power is clearly dependent on the climatic conditions which means that now that the rains are here, the power supply from solar will be limited.

Do you have photovoltaic solar systems installed? Are you planning to having inverters or photovoltaic solar systems installed? Please let me know in the comments section!
