New York Fashion Week was memerized by West’s showcase in a bold fashion show–cum–listening party he hosted for his new record, 'The Life of Pablo', which saw Madison Square Garden packed to the rafters today.
Not only were his wife Kim Kardashian and their daughter , North, in attendance but his sister-in-laws were also in attendance as well. Other famous names present included Lil’ Kim, Jaden Smith, 50 cent, Omari Hardwick and most notably, Caitlyn Jenner.
All of his extended family was clad in a combination of Yeezy and Olivier Rousteing–designed Balmain.
He, once again, collaborated with the performance artist Vanessa Beecroft. At the end of the first track, “Ultra Light Beams,” the parachute scrim over the floor of the Garden was pulled away to unveil the 1,200 or so extras West and Beecroft had styled in the monochrome colors—taupe, ochre, red—of past Yeezy collections.
The extras stood apart by gender, around a pair of refugee tents, which models stood or sat on in Yeezy Season 3, which were also divided by gender.
The collection strayed from Season 1 and Season 2 in a more colorful palette, however he stuck to his streetwear, athleisure-inflected signature look.
The collection consisted of bodysuits, cargo gear, and oversize outerwear. Also, Naomi Campbell, Veronica Webb, and Liya Kebede dramatically emerged in black leotards and holey, floor-length mink coats, joining the other female models on a tent.
A part of the spectacle that got everyone talking, though, was that of the “refugees” and the tents, which made a burning visual. the image begged the question: should such images of imprisonment be used as a medium of creative expression and entertainment?
