The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)

WAEC says 34,664 out of 133,223 candidates that sat for the exam obtained a minimum of five credits including Maths and English. The figure represents 26.01%  according to the exam body.

While announcing the release of the result, at the 55th annual meeting of the council’s  Nigeria National Committee held in Katsina, the head of the Nigeria National office of the WAEC, Olu Adenipekun said the exam for private candidates was conducted from August 15 to October 4, 2017.

Adenipekun  said, “A total of 34, 664 candidates, representing 26.01%, obtained the minimum of credits in five subjects and above, including English language and General Mathematics. The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for private candidates in  2015 and 2016 was 28.595 and 38.50%, respectively.

“A total of 135,945, candidates registered for the examination, out of which 133,223, candidates sat the examination. Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 67,279 were male and 65,944 were female, representing 50.50% and 49.50 %  respectively.

Almost all the candidates results have been processed and released according to Adenipekun as  98.70% of the results have been released.

“Out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 131, 485 candidates  representing 98.70% have their results fully processed and released, while 1, 738 candidates, representing 1.30% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination. Such errors are being corrected by the council to enable the affected candidates to get their results fully processed and released subsequently.

“Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 111, 763 candidates, representing 85.89% obtained credits and above in two subjects; 98,506 candidates, representing 73.94% obtained credits and above in three subjects; 83,256 candidates, representing 62. 49% obtained credits and above in four subjects; 65,483 candidates, representing 49.15%obtained credits and above in five subjects; 46,824 candidates, representing 35.14% obtained credits and above in six.

The Nov/Dec edition of the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination is conducted for private  candidates.
