Lecturers may begin another industrial action in November

Barely a month after calling off its nationwide strike, ASUU is warming up to embark on another industrial action.

The Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU) may embark on another strike action in November.

ASUU recently called off its one-month industrial action after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government that their demands would be implemented before the end of October.

However, one week to the end of October, it has been alleged that the government has not implemented any aspect of the agreement it reached with the union in September.

Before ASUU suspended the recent industrial action, the President of the Union had announced that they are suspending the strike to allow government commence implementation of the agreement between them.

An anonymous lecturer who spoke with the Nation about the impending strike said the union is warming up for another industrial action has government has not addressed their demands.

He said,  “the government has not done anything. We have not heard from them and it is just one week to the end of the October deadline. I can assure you that we are warming up and there is the possibility that from November 1, we will resume the suspended action

"They (government) told our leaders during negotiations that they have prepared everything for the implementation. They were even brandishing some papers, especially on the earned Academic Allowance. But we have not seen anything nor heard from them.
