Pontiff reveals he is just like us when it comes to sleeping off while praying

Apparently, we are all guilty of this particular bad habit.

Anyone who sleeps off while praying can relax because Pope Francis has just confessed to the same crime.

During a recent interview with Catholic television program TV2000, the pontiff said he sometimes dozes off while he’s praying.

“When I pray, sometimes I fall asleep,” Francis said, according to a translation by The Guardian.

He went on to reveal that he is not the only one that is guilty of this.

“Saint Therese did it too,” he added.

Saint Therese of Lisieux was a 19th-century French nun. According to Society of the Little Flower, she was known for this, adding that she found this embarrassing.

On its website, the society says that Therese later came to the conclusion that “just as parents love their children as much while asleep as awake, so God loved her even though she often slept during the time for prayers.”

But “She was embarrassed by her inability to remain awake during her hours in the chapel with the religious community,” the site added.

Just in case you were wondering, the Pontiff blames this habit on fatigue which is understandable for someone whose day starts at roughly 4:45 a.m. and ends by 10 p.m.

He is also an 80 years old, who also happens to be the leader of over a billion Catholics in the world.
