Authorities urge Muslim farmers to play Quran recitals to their cows

The belief is that reciting the Quran to cows will produce high-quality beef.

The authorities in Malaysia are urging Muslims farmers to play

According to Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi, the State Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry, Green Technology and Biotechnology Committee chairman, the government hopes that playing Quranic recitals to the animals will relax them and improve the quality of their meat.

Muslims farmers to recite Quran to their cows?

Speaking with Channel NewsAsia, the senior official said, “We believe that reading the Quran gives peace of mind to people, so it might give peace of mind to animals and produce better meat.”

He added, “We believe the quality of the beef will get better if the animal is calm or in a relaxed situation.”

The chairman also explained the reason for this proposed plan saying, "When these cows are bred here they are very disciplined and listen to the cow herders.

The only problem is as soon as they are transported elsewhere they become irrational and difficult to handle. That is why we are trying to groom the cows to be tame."

This plan is being proposed by Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), which is in charge of the state legislature in Kelantan, the north of the Muslim-majority country.

However, no bill has been passed yet as the authorities are depending on the local farmers to push for it and find a way to implement it.
