Fanning the ember months

A month set aside world wide for several festivities surrounding the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and the penultimate month to a new year.

Its that time of the year again, where everything gets a little too tense and most people worry about the year not turning out the way it ought to. When it looks like time is far spent without you actually achieving your laid down goals for the year.

This haze usually starts from the month of September and stealthily climax in the final month of December. Look around you, it's the first day of December. A month set aside world wide for several festivities surrounding the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and the penultimate month to a new year.

"Be thankful for what you have and allow yourself some breathing space."

Energy to finish in high spirit

Moving towards the end of each year, you'll realise that people tend to put in extra effort in order not to be left behind, some beat up themselves when it becomes obvious that their once achievable set of predetermined goals are anything but achievable within the time-frame of a year.

Suddenly, it dawns on them that maybe they can make it up in the next year and that births an endless circle of yearly resolutions. Now the question is why do we set unrealistic goals within a yearly time-frame, when they can actually be achieved if given enough time?

I know some people set deadlines because it helps with procrastination but we shouldn't put ourselves under unnecessary pressure if things are not turning out as planned.

Personally, I've to-do lists because it helps me with planning my schedule. I tend to have a sense of focus when I've my activities laid out in my personal diary. Looking back retrospectively to this year I know for a fact that I didn't achieve some of the resolutions I made earlier in the year.

Honestly I don't feel too good about this but I'm thankful for the other things I didn't write down but I've right now. It means I still have the chance to make things happen in the nearest future.

The present situation in the country

Looking at Nigeria over the years, I realized that crime rate skyrockets during the festive season. I really don't know why it's like that, a whole lot of auto crashes are recorded during this period. Also terrible traffic jams is the norm especially in cities like Lagos when every one is rushing in and out of everywhere in a bid to outmaneuver the traffic.

Kidnapping is another thing to look out for during this season. It becomes very rampant once we we enter into the ember months.

Several cases of ritualists luring children with biscuits and sweets into their den has been reported. Some of the kidnapped kids are sometimes lucky enough to be found while others bade the world farewell because of these sheer acts of greed and wickedness. However, excluding all the societal vices associated with this season, it's really a time to be grateful to God for the journey thus far.

We should all be thankful for what we have and allow ourselves some breathing space. Life can toss you up and down but it all boils down to what you make of it.
