Who are you?

You may know more about what I do and how I see life but you really still don't know WHO I am.

Seems like a pretty simple question. Right? So answer it. Take a moment and write down who you are. Maybe in about five to ten sentences.

You are not your Resume

Now, read over what you have written. Which parts talk about what you do? And what parts talk about WHO you are, as in your identity?

Let's take a look at my current bio to help explain this.

"Salt Essien-Nelson is a working wife, mom and blogger turned published author. In 2009, her love for people and passion for writing gave birth to her blog ministry, The Salt Chronicles.

In July 2016, after an intimate encounter with God during that year’s Return of the Helper gathering, Salt gave birth to a new baby, Salt Talks on WhatsApp. So now, not only does Salt share her thoughts in writing on her blog, she now ‘talks’ to her WhatsApp family via audio notes.

Everyone has a God-given voice. I am just trying to use mine to inspire people to love like God because His brand of love brings about the best kind of change, In humans and in situations.

Salt is also the Founder of the Shola Adefolalu Gaska Foundation aka the Sholly Smile Factory, a not for profit organisation determined to make the world a happier place, one smile at a time.

She draws her inspiration from all the life going on around her and believes, if only we would pay attention, there is a lesson to be learnt from all our experiences; good, bad and even the downright ugly."

WHO are you not WHAT do you DO

How about that? Not bad, abi? Yes, I wrote this so of course I like it. It's a good response BUT  only if the question was 'What do you do? Read it again. Apart from my name 'Salt' there is really nothing in this profile. You may know more about what I do and how I see life but you really still don't know WHO I am. This my friend is where we miss it as Christians.

Your God-Identity

Because if the first thing that comes to mind when I'm asked who I am is not deeply rooted in my God identity then I'm just free lunch for the devil. The devil doesn't care about what I do for God. He's only scared of a Christian who fully understands his/her God-Identity as a SON.

Did Jesus Christ die to make me a blogger or a mom or a wife or the Founder of The Sholly Smile Factory? No. He died to make me a Son of God, accepted in the Beloved. A member of the Royal Priesthood. He died to make me Peculiar Salt.

Jonah got it

Compare how I introduce myself to how our dear Brother Jonah did it in the Old Testament:

“Jonah answered, “I am a Hebrew, and I worship the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the land.””

See our lives? We who have a better covenant in Christ? We reel off a list of titles and all but here Jonah knows what really matters. His bloodline - Jewish - and who he serves and therefore belongs too - Jehovah God!

In one sentence he has said more than my five paragraphs!

Profiles and Resumes are good

Don't get me wrong. Writer profiles are great and needful. So are resumes and CVs. It's just that when it comes to standing your ground against the enemy of your soul, it's who you are that matters! And if you don't know who you are,  how then do you stand? How do wield your power?

Your value is tied to your God-Identity

If you don't understand that your significance, self worth and value is tied to who you are in God, you will continue to tie all three things to your status, possessions and qualifications.

This my friend is the recipe for inferiority complex, depression and hopelessness. Cos when you think you lack any, you sink even though you have it all!

Imagine that. How sad God must be.

When he paid so much to make us 'All That'.
