'Snake in the Monkey shadow': I cry for my country, my beloved

I just wonder what lyrics the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti would have churned out from this mess.

Nigeria is a blessed Nation. This might sound paradoxical but in reality it is truth.

We have vast lands with fertile soil, a very rich culture; just think about Nigerian entertainment, music and fashion, for instance, we have such an influence on other cultures, the world over. I was in an African Country recently and the music at an event was basically Nigerian, not minding that they probably had no inkling to the meaning of the lyrics. There is hardly any place in the World that a Nigerian does not and cannot live in. We are Blessed.

The last year has shown us that our Country can be the food basket for Africa if we are willing to do the work.

All over the world Nigerians are doing fantastic things.

Recent Accomplishments

Recently the Bobsleigh team “repping” Nigeria made the news and won many hearts in the process.

It was a Nigerian Doctor that performed successful surgery on a 23 week old unborn baby, by removing tumor from the baby outside the womb  and returning her to the womb ; she was born healthy at 36 weeks.

How about Philip Emeagwali the famous inventor and scientist? Omowunmi Sadik who developed a biosensor for drug and bomb detection? Nigeria is blessed.

Nigerian Students Abroad

How about Nigerian students schooling abroad? We heard about the Nigerian who broke the John Hopkins academic record, some years ago (3.98 out of 4.0 GPA). How many students get 4.0 out of 4.0 , in a Masters program? A Nigerian did that in the university of Texas and no, she was not born and raised in America!

The youngest graduate of the 166 years of Royal Holloway, University of London, is a Nigerian. He didn’t just graduate, though; he did with a FIRST CLASS in Economics.

Now when a student graduates from the University of Cambridge, one needs to pay attention, however when a person obtains a first class degree from the University of Cambridge, and that person is a Nigerian ! Wow!

Did you know that a Nigerian solved a mathematical problem in Japan, which had been unsolvable for over three decades?

We are a blessed people. I think to rephrase this sentence in the light of our present predicament as a people, it is safe to say, “ Nigerians has what it takes to be a Blessed people”

Not so Blessed tales

The famous yahoo boys scam has its root in Nigeria, A British Prime Minister, once described us as               “ fantastically corrupt “ and we went up in arms against him, but statistics reveal from Transparency International Index of 2017 ranks us 148 out of 180 Countries. Our score is 27 (where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 not corrupt). If your child comes home with 27% will you just sit there and say he has to try better next time?

A certain Philomena Chieshe, claimed that a snake swallowed N36million in the JAMB office

How any enlightened individual can think such a statement will “fly” is beyond me! Why are we like this? A snake? And just when we are trying to understand the mental state of this JAMB worker , the Nigerian senate is talking about a Monkey that stole 70 million

Monkey? So what are we doing now? Why does it look like we are acting out a Nollywood script; “Snake in the Monkey shadow, Nigerian Edition “.

Is the Prime Minister then justified for calling us “fantastically corrupt “? I just wonder what lyrics the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti would have churned out from this mess.

I cry for my Country, My beloved.
