Stars Embarassed In Court Over Marvin Gaye Family Lawsuit

A US federal judge has denied a motion by singer Robin Thicke and songwriter Pharrell Williams, who wanted a court to reject the plagiarism claims made by the late Marvin Gaye's children over "Blurred Lines".

Today Oct. 31, a US federal judge has denied a motion by singer Robin Thicke and songwriter Pharrell Williams, who wanted a court to reject the plagiarism claims made by the late Marvin Gaye's children.

Apparently, the family of Gaye has won round one in the court battle over allegations that Thicke's last year's hit “Blurred Lines” was ripped off their father's work.

Marvin III had previously told TMZ back in Nov. 2013, «We are fans of like he is to my father. the only problem is, if you take his work and turn into your own, the least you could do is give credit where its due. Don't the old's long hard years of work and then put his family into . For me, that's gross disrespect!» .

According to DailyMail, a jury will decide their accusations that the 2012 hit song 'Blurred Lines' wrongly copied parts of their father's music in a celebrity trial set for February 2015.

U.S. District Judge John A. Kronstadt made the ruling after hearing views by experts for Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, and by Gaye's children, over 'Blurred Lines' and Gaye's 'Got to Give it Up'.

The federal judge said there was a good argument about whether signature phrases, hooks, bass lines, keyboard chords and vocal melodies in the two songs are the same.

Thicke and Pharrell had sought a motion on Thursday [Oct.30] by the judge that 'Blurred Lines' did not infringe on copyrights to the Gaye song.

Their attorney, Howard King, wrote in an email that the judge's decision was not a surprise, and he was confident the hit songwriters would win at trial.

'Since the compositions at issue are completely different, we remain confident of prevailing at trial,' King wrote.
